Johne's Disease Resource Page
Background
Johne's Disease (JD) is a chronic, incurable bacterial disease of ruminant animals. It affects primarily the gastrointestinal tract and ultimately results in persistent diarrhea and weight loss in infected animals. Prevention of new cases of Johne's Disease involves the adoption of management practices designed to minimize the exposure of susceptible animals to Mycobacterium avium paratuberculosis, the bacteria that is responsible for this disease.
