Info on Extension Meetings

Penn State extension veterinarians are available as speakers for your meeting. Meeting facilitators including extension educators, veterinarians, nutritionists, consultants or club leaders can request a presentation by contacting the PSU Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Extension office.

Extension meetings cover a wide range of audiences, formats and expertise levels, including livestock producers, co-operative groups, animal owners and breeders, hobbyists, and 4-H or other youth groups.

Topics can cover various aspects of animal health, nutrition and management, preventative medicine approaches, and disease management for the following species:

  • Dairy Cattle
  • Beef Cattle
  • Meat Goats
  • Dairy Goats
  • Sheep
  • Horses
  • Llamas and Alpacas
  • Deer, farm-raised

Examples of possible topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Animal identification
  • Emerging disease concerns - BSE, CWD
  • Bacterial resistance
  • Biosecurity, on farm
  • Disease risk analysis
  • Food safety, on-farm
  • Johne's disease programs
  • Livestock nutrition and health
  • Parasite control
  • Mastitis/milk quality
  • Transition cow management
  • Vaccine protocols for all species

Examples of "hands-on" topics:

  • Feed sample analysis
  • Reading bacterial culture plates
  • Injections and injection site lesions
  • Calving management
