A Success Story

Rachel Katherine Voller, a Pennsylvania native, graduated from Penn State’s Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences major with high distinction in May of 2011.  Following her graduation, she started her veterinary studies at University of Pennsylvania’s College of Veterinary Medicine in August, 2011.  “Rachel has always been a great student and I have every confidence in her to be successful in her future endeavors” says her adviser, Dr. Nüket Acar, Advising Coordinator in the Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Department.  Dr. Acar would like to share the following unsolicited mail from Rachel:

Classes at University of Pennsylvania (Veterinary Medical College) are going great. It is incredible how much information is presented in each class! And we go from 9am to 5pm every day.  I wanted to make sure I told my adviser though, how awesome the Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences department did at preparing us academically!  So far, almost everything that we've been learning at University of Pennsylvania, I learned at some point during my four years at Penn State.  I'm glad I took the time to learn it then, because these first few weeks of review would have been overwhelming if I hadn't!  Amino Acid Biochemistry, Nutrition, Gylcolysis, the Kreb's cycle, Anatomy, Physiology - it is all useful and applicable now!  Thank you Penn State’s Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences! says Rachel Voller who was indeed a stellar student.  She was a Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences Summer Camp counselor in 2009 and was on the Dean’s list for seven consecutive semesters, and earned a minor in Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies.  She benefitted from study abroad program and visited Egypt and Italy.  Rachel adds that she could not have done it without her academic adviser and Dr. Lester Griel’s (program coordinator for the VBSC program) guidance.
