Commonwealth Campuses

Points to remember for students who start Penn State at a Commonwealth Campus.

The bottom line:

Our academic programs have been carefully designed to follow the 2+2 model.

Right now, students who complete their first two years at a Commonwealth Campus are successfully finishing our programs at University Park in four years—in fact, some of our very best students have started at Commonwealth Campuses.

Remember:

  • Congratulations on your admission to Penn State!
  • University Park admission is extremely competitive: on average 35,000 applicants request it as their first choice campus—with roughly 7000 spaces are available.
  • Students who begin at a Commonwealth Campus typically complete their first two years at that campus and then automatically make the transition to University Park to complete their degree.  The change is automatic as long as the student meets all academic requirements.
  • There are distinct advantages to starting at a Commonwealth Campus: learning, engaging in student life, making connections with faculty, and making connections with other students, in a smaller, more personal academic environment.
  • In short, the Commonwealth Campus experience is part of the whole Penn State package.

Our faculty are committed to:

  • SUPPORTING the 2+2 plan.
  • WORKING directly with students and academic advisers at Commonwealth Campus, on a deliberate, case-by-case basis, to determine the most appropriate semester for each student to make the transition to University Park.
  • HELPING students make a successful transition to University Park, with close advising and integration into the Biomedical Sciences Club, the Pre-Vet Club, and other student organizations.
