Required courses and enhancement opportunities.

What is Immunology and Infectious Disease?

This academic program explores how the body copes with bacterial, viral, or parasitic infections, cancer, and other diseases. It builds expertise from the level of molecules and cells all the way up to populations and ecosystems.

Students in the Immunology and Infectious Disease major at Penn State first obtain a solid foundation in mathematics, physical sciences, chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology. They then enjoy the opportunity to specialize with required courses in immunology, microbiology, epidemiology, bacterial and viral pathogenesis. Finally, each student's curriculum is unique based on their choices of senior-level "supporting courses."

One of only five undergraduate programs in immunology in the country, Immunology and Infectious Disease is truly unique: it is the only such program in a natural resources and environmental sciences college, and the only one with required coursework in epidemiology including laboratory.
