4th Annual Biomedical Science Club Undergraduate Conference

On Saturday, March 23, the Penn State Biomedical Sciences Club held its 4th annual undergraduate conference. This all-day event featured six prominent biomedical scientists.

Scientist  including one veterinarian and three physicians, from institutions such as the National Institutes of Health, Penn State Hershey Medical Center, the Pennsylvania Department of Health, and the University of Pennsylvania. Research topics included:

Antimicrobial drug resistance
Epidemiology of food borne illness
Host-pathogen interactions in respiratory disease
Renal replacement therapy

Dr. Richard Fairhurst, Director of the Malaria Pathogenesis and Human Immunity Unit at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, was the keynote speaker for the event.

Additional workshops supplied students with information about graduate and professional school applications and study abroad opportunities.
