Dr. Justin Brown
This semester, we welcome Dr. Justin Brown to the faculty of the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences as an Assistant Teaching Professor.
Dr. Brown received his D.V.M. from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004 and earned his Ph.D. in Veterinary Pathology from the University of Georgia in 2008. From 2008 to 2013, Dr. Brown worked as a wildlife disease diagnostician and research scientist at the Southeastern Cooperative Wildlife Disease Study (SCWDS). SCWDS is a regional wildlife disease laboratory based out of the University of Georgia that provides diagnostic and research support for states throughout the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic. In 2014, Dr. Brown moved to State College, where he served as the state wildlife veterinarian for the Pennsylvania Game Commission for the last five years.
As an Assistant Teaching Professor, Dr. Brown will join the advising team in the Department of Veterinary and Biomedical Sciences. In addition, he will be teaching several courses offered by the department.
Dr. Brown's career interests focus on understanding the impacts of diseases on wildlife populations and the potential for wildlife species involvement in diseases of agricultural or public health importance. He has worked with a wide-diversity of birds, mammals, and reptiles, and has experience with range of diseases, including chronic wasting disease, avian influenza virus, West Nile virus, sarcoptic mange, and canine distemper.
