Numerous organizations and national health agencies recommend consumption of the long-­‐chain omega-­‐3 fatty acids (FAs) eicosapentaenoic acid and docosahexaenoic acid (EPA and DHA), respectively, in pill or fish form for general cardiovascular health. We have demonstrated improvement of CVD markers upon fish oil supplementation. Detailed examination of the mechanism of action of components of fish oil point to potential differences in the potency and indications for use of DHA versus EPA, in particular regarding cancer prevention [PMID 16169525, 17284731, 21159789, 16731579]
