Success Stories

Below are just a few of the recent examples of how the Penn State University Center for Excellence in Nutrigenomics has fulfilled its goal to enhance nutrition. See also our past funded research projects

Walnuts

Walnuts, as a rich source of the omega-­‐3 PUFA alpha linolenic acid (ALA), have cardioprotective effects mediated in part by a reduction in the production of inflammatory cytokines.

Pistachios

Pistachios decrease cardiovascular disease risk factors and identification of potential mechanism of action.

Fish Oil

Fish Oil is effective at preventing several indices of metabolic syndrome including reducing triglycerides, inflammation, and improving endothelial function

Conjugated Linoleic Acids

Conjugated Linoleic Acids (CLA) shows distinct isomer and tissue differences: Implication for use as a dietary supplement.

High antioxidant spices

High antioxidant spices attenuates postprandial insulin and triglyceride responses, and decrease inflammatory markers
