Do not submit animal carcasses of any kind to the KADC - these cannot be accepted at this time.  Carcasses should be delivered to the Animal Diagnostic Laboratory at University Park, or one of the other PADLS labs.  This includes any carcasses or specimens to be tested for rabies.

HPAI Active Surveillance Zones

When there are active surveillance zones, the HPAI weekend schedule will be posted on the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Avian Influenza (Bird Flu) page.

Click "Sampling/Submitting" Then go to the bottom of the page.

Please contact us with any questions at 724-773-3502, or by email at kadchelp@psu.edu.

KADC accepts specimens collected from agricultural animals including cattle, sheep, goats, swine, horses, deer, camelids, poultry, and game birds for testing.

When preparing to submit samples to the lab, please note any shortened hours or closure days  listed on the homepage. Samples should be dropped off at the lab before 4:00PM. Although we prefer to receive samples during normal operating hours, it is possible to drop off properly packaged and labeled samples after hours. Please carefully follow the directions posted in the vestibule, making sure that you have a fully completed submission with the samples.

If you want to ship samples for testing (rather than delivering in-person), please contact the KADC at 724-773-3502 so that we can help you make the most expeditious choice of PADLS lab to which the sample should be submitted.  You can also contact us by email at kadchelp@psu.edu.  This will help ensure testing in a timely manner.

The Keystone Animal Diagnostic Center strongly encourages the involvement of a local veterinarian with all submissions. This professional has expertise in selecting, preparing and shipping of proper specimens and is able to assist with the implementation of any recommendations made. Local veterinarians are also in the best position to recommend and administer treatment and preventive measures should this be necessary.

The quality and appropriateness of samples submitted has a significant effect on the quality of the test results obtained. Please see the PADLS User Guide for guidelines regarding sample selection and handling. Specimens accepted by the laboratory for testing cannot be returned.

KADC reserves the right to determine the suitability of a sample for providing meaningful results. KADC reserves the right to perform tests for any of the diseases regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture on any specimen it receives.
