Rabies Update

Attention Clients

Dear valued ADL clients,

Please be advised that during the month of October 2020, we will have limited capacity to accept mammalian necropsy submissions.  We request that you call ahead for availability prior to submitting a case.  We ask that you please pass this on to your clients who regularly send submissions as well.  Submissions may be deferred to either the Pennsylvania Veterinary Lab in Harrisburg, or the New Bolton Center in Kennett Square.  We expect to resume normal capacity in November.  We recognize that this is an inconvenience to you and your clients, and we thank you for your understanding during this time of limited staffing at ADL. 

Currently the Animal Diagnostic Lab is on normal operating schedule of 8 am to 5 pm.

Due to the challenges presented by the COVID-19 pandemic, ADL is currently operating with minimal staffing during our regular business hours. Please be advised that turn-around-time for cases submitted to the lab may be delayed due to modified staffing. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. Fee changes at the Animal Diagnostic Lab

There has been a change in how some cases are being charged at the Animal Diagnostic Lab. Please see the following letter to see what fees have been changed.

Emerging Animal Infectious Diseases Conference

The College of Agricultural Sciences, in conjunction with Penn State's Center for Security Research and Education, will be presenting a Emerging Animal Infectious Diseases Conference in October 5-7, 2020.

Disposal fee change

Beginning August 1, 2019, there will be some changes to the way that disposal fees will be charged for necropsy cases.

PADLS disposal fees for all carcasses, including avian necropsy cases, will be implemented as follows:

$10 for less than 25 pounds

$21 for 26 to 250 pounds

$42 for greater than 250 pounds

Disposal fees are also subject to separate site specific fees or additional contract charges. Please call the lab you are submitting to with any specific questions.

Rabies Update

Changes have occurred pertaining to the policy of shipping rabies samples to the Department of Health. Please see the Rabies page before bringing any samples for rabies testing to the Animal Diagnostic Lab or shipping any samples to the Department of Health.
