PADLS poultry clients—Update on PADLS Avian mycoplasma testing:

Charles River, the sole supplier of Mycoplasma synoviae (MS) and Mycoplasma gallisepticum (MG) antigen, is experiencing a nationwide-shortage of the MS antigen that is used for rapid plate agglutination (RPA) tests. All three PADLS labs will most likely have spent their supplies by next week.  At this time, the PADLS labs are optimistic that the latest Charles River MS antigen lot will be approved by USDA for delivery in the near future—so the rapid plate test for MS screening is made available again.  In the interim, the PADLS labs have made individual accommodations to address the shortage and may send samples between the laboratories to accommodate the requested tests. The client will not be charged for inter-lab shipment of these samples. Turn-around-time may be affected. The difference in price between the RPA tests and the ELISA test will be less than a $1/sample.  We apologize for this inconvenience and are looking forward to offering the MS RPA test again as soon as the supply of antigen is available again. Please contact the individual laboratories if you have further questions related to your testing.
